Rescuebite.com allows food retailers and restaurants to sell their surplus and reduced–to-clear food directly to university students at a discounted rate.
Sam and Boitumelo started RescueBite after experiencing food insecurity at university, a situation that is not uncommon in South Africa, where widespread hunger affects many students at tertiary institutions.
They saw the opportunity to both offer students affordable options for food and food at risk that would otherwise go to waste.
Since launching, RescueBite has had over 10 000 website visits and 3 700 customers, with an average check-out of R 135.00. In addition, 75 food partners and over 7800 delivery drivers have registered on the app.
